We invite those attending to bring in strange and/or meaningful pieces of art, pottery, jewelry, etc. We will have fun while learning about each piece. Facilitated by Marjorie Friedman.
Our special guest speaker will be Dr. Maura Scanlan, Ph.D on "The Environment - Ecology & Biology!"
From Dr. Scanlan - My interests and experience in biology are largely related to ecology and fisheries biology, completing internships with US Fish & Wildlife in Buffalo, NY and at Mote Marine Laboratories in Sarasota, FL. I had been employed with the NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation in Cortland, NY before moving to FL. Prior to teaching at SPC starting in 2011, I had also taught at Buffalo State College and Manatee Community College.
I currently serve on the Advisory Board for Pinellas County Extension (Chair) and the Board for the Pinellas Beekeepers Association. I am a member of the FL Association of Environmental Professionals (Tampa Bay Chapter), the Community College Consortium for Heath and Safety Training (CCCHST)/ National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (PETE), and American Association for the Advancement of Science. In addition, I am an eligible AP Environmental Science reader for ETS. More recently, I am working towards earning my master beekeeper credential through UF.
