Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907-1972) was one of the most influential Jewish thinkers and activists of the twentieth century. We will explore his journey from his Hasidic family in Warsaw to Berlin, New York, the Vatican and Selma, Alabama.
Taking us on this journey will be Michael Marmur, Associate Professor of Jewish Theology at HUC-JIR in Jerusalem. He is the author of Abraham Joshua Heschel and the Sources of Wonder (2017) and co-editor with David Ellenson of American Jewish Thought Since 1934. He is the Chair of the Board of Rabbis for Human Rights and previously served as Provost of HUC-JIR, and the Dean of the Jerusalem campus of the College-Institute.
This is a collaborative event hosted by Temple Beth-El, Temple B'nai Israel and Temple Ahavat Shalom.
