Saint Leo University’s Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies Hosting Webinar, ‘The Task of Dialogue in a Time of Crisis’ Featuring Leading Christian and Jewish Scholars

ST. LEO, FL – Saint Leo University’s Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies is hosting an informative webinar The Task of Dialogue in a Time of Crisis, 1-2:30 p.m. (ET) Thursday, February 29. The public is invited to attend. This webinar will be featuring a panel of leading scholars who will address the current political crisis and tensions in Jewish-Christian dialogue.

The webinar will explore how to acquire a deeper understanding of others in the context of conflict, war, and disinformation; the principles that enable fruitful dialogue about difficult topics in the face of rising antisemitism and polarization; and how to sustain dialogue in moments of crisis. It will be moderated by Dr. Matthew Tapie, CCJS director, and Rabbi David Maayan, CCJS associate director.

Guest speakers are Dr. Karma Ben-Johanan, who teaches modern Christianity and Jewish-Christian relations in the Department of Comparative Religion at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; Dr. Yazid Said, senior lecturer in Islam at Liverpool Hope University, England; Dr. Peter Ochs, the Edgar M. Bronfman Professor of Modern Judaic Studies at the University of Virginia, and Dr. Gavin D'Costa, emeritus professor of Catholic theology at the University of Bristol, England, and a visiting professor of interreligious dialogue at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Rome.

Recently, guest speaker Ben-Johanan joined other scholars and sent a letter to Pope Francis, who responded about some of the same themes to be discussed during the Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies webinar on February 29.
