Seven weeks after Passover ends, it’s time to celebrate Shavuot. This holiday marks the biblical story of receiving the Ten Commandments and the Torah at Mt. Sinai. While many families don’t regularly celebrate Shavuot, it’s a holiday that’s totally made for kids –a perfect excuse for sleepovers, flower picking, ice cream socials, and lots of other fun activities.

The event will include a STEM demonstration of how the Nitrogen Ice Cream is created, with the opportunity for all children in attendance to create their own ice cream. The demonstration starts by teaching STEM based concepts through the use of liquid nitrogen as found on the periodic table of elements. Using safe methods, the staff demonstrates the colorless, odorless liquid which appears to bubble and boil as vapor mist swirls and dances at room temperature. The unique program is concluded by everyone’s favorite experiment — creating ice cream for each and every participant made fresh and delicious by the miracle of science. If there are any students with special dietary needs, they can create separate batches of their special non-dairy/sugar-free options that taste absolutely amazing. Everyone loves ice cream and it always brings a smile!

The PJ Library is a unique program that seeks to encourage Jewish families with young children to explore Jewish literature.  In order to accomplish that goal, each month The PJ Library sends an age-appropriate Jewish content book or CD to enrolled children between the ages of 6 months to 8 years. Created by The Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF), The PJ Library is funded by local philanthropists and organizations in partnership with HGF.

PJ Our Way is the next chapter of PJ Library for kids ages 9-12. It is available free of charge throughout the U.S. and Canada to families raising Jewish children. Every month, kids can to choose the book they want to receive. Kids can also submit reviews and videos about the books.
