Introduction to the Largo Library Genealogical Collection
                                                                  and Individual Research Meeting
                                                                     Saturday, November 11, 2017

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Tampa Bay is pleased to inform you that it will meet at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Largo Library, 120 Central Park Drive, Largo, Florida (in the Local History Room on the second floor) for an introduction to the genealogical holdings of the library, with an emphasis on the library’s subscription databases.  Note that this special meeting will not be at the JGSTB regular meeting place or date.

The Largo Public Library is the designated center for genealogical research for the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative, and it has twice earned the Genealogy Outstanding Achievement Award by the Florida State Genealogical Society.  Thanks in part to the Pinellas Genealogy Society (PGS), which houses its library holdings there, the Largo Library has one of the most extensive genealogical collections in the Tampa Bay region including a large collection of books on Jewish Genealogy.  Volunteers from the PGS staff the Genealogy Department of the library on most days, and we are appreciative that PGS volunteers will be there to give an overview and a private tour of the library’s genealogical resources.  Volunteers will remain after the tour to help interested persons with guided assistance.  You are asked to bring library cards if you have one for easy access to online genealogical resources available through the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative.  Attendees should bring their own materials and information if they wish to do research at the library.  Laptop computers may also be useful if the library does not have enough computers to accommodate everyone, but understand that personal computers may not have access to the library’s subscription databases which will be featured at this meeting.

The overview session of the library's holdings will begin at 2:00 PM, and that will be followed by individual research using the library's microfilm/microfiche readers and computer facilities with guided assistance if needed until the library closes at 5:00 PM.  Anyone interested in learning how to do Jewish genealogy research is invited to participate. Beginners as well as experienced researchers are welcome.

The JGSTB very much appreciates the hosting of this meeting by the PGS with special thanks to the Largo Library and to PGS Education Director Bob Bryan and Communications Director Peter Summers for arranging this special meeting and for conducting the tour and overview.  Both Bob Bryan and Peter Summers are well known to JGSTB members from their many previous talks to the JGSTB.
